Chandigarh, 28 September: The RSSDI Chandigarh chapter conducted in its inaugural CME on the 23rd of September, 2022. The CME was held at LT complex, PGIMER, Chandigarh and was well-attended by dignitaries and delegates from far and wide.
The CME featured reputed international speakers, Prof. Marta Korbonits (London), and Prof. Sriprakash Mokshagundam (USA) as well as reputed national speakers (Prof. Ashish Sharma, Chandigarh), Prof. Nikhil Tandon (AIIMS, New Delhi), and Dr Sunil M Jain (Indore). Regional and national audience including endocrinologists, diabetologists, physicians, gynaecologists and orthopedicians attended the programme and enjoyed the scientific feast. The CME began on a note of invoking the presence of the Almighty, followed by the traditional lamp-lighting. Prof. Vivek Lal, Honourable Director PGIMER, was the chief guest for the occasion who inaugurated the conference and congratulated the department of Endocrinology for the commendable feat.
This was followed by talks in two plenary sessions, incorporating the talks ranging from technology and therapeutics in diabetes to transplant prospects and opportunities. The CME was organised by the Department of Endocrinology, PGIMER, Chandigarh and was attended by the Chairman (Prof. Sanjay Bhadada) , Vice-Chairman (Dr. B S Bhatia), Secretary (Dr. Ashu Rastogi), Joint Secretary (Dr. S K Mathur), Treasurer (Dr. Liza Das), members of the Executive Committee, and other members. The talks were well presented and well-received, with plenty of time for opportunity and discussion. The interaction between the speakers resulted in the dissemination of knowledge regarding uncommon aspects of diabetes.
Topics were designed to cover T1DM, T2DM, gestational diabetes as well as secondary diabetes (glucocorticoid-induced diabetes). The ceremony was also marked by the release of the autobiography of Late Prof. R J Dash, the first DM in the subject and erstwhile head of the department.
Prof. Marta spoke about her seminal work in the field of glucocorticoid-induced diabetes where she talked about the efficacy of metformin in averting or reducing adverse events. Prof. Mokshagundam spoke about his vast experience in islet cell transplantation as a strategy for beta-cell replacement. The second plenary session consisted of 3 talks, starting with Dr. Jain, one of the national authorities in diabetes technology, deliberating on the techniques of glucose monitoring and insulin delivery, including the latest do-it-yourself algorithm. Prof. Ashish spoke about the pan-India experience with simultaneous-pancreas kidney transplant and the challenges in the procedure. The scientific session concluded with the talk of Prof. Tandon, who delivered his talk on implementing cardiometabolic
interventional strategies in women with prior gestational diabetes mellitus. The CME concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Secretary.
The CME not only kickstarted the proceedings of the chapter but also provided a platform for all delegates and participants to interact with the speakers so as to encourage more clinical and translational research in the field of diabetes.
The scientific extravaganza was followed by an activity for promoting physical health among the delegates by organising a morning walk.
