Chandigarh, 08 November: Advanced Eye Centre (AEC), PGIMER, in association with the International Society of Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgeons (ISMSICS) recently organized the Comprehensive Cataract Conference ‘CCC 2022’ from 4th -6th November 2022 at Hotel Hyatt Regency Chandigarh. This event was the 4th Biennial World Conference of ISMSICS and was attended by approximately 400 delegates and reputed national and international faculty from various countries including Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Phillippines, Bangladesh and Congo.
All aspects of modern day cataract surgery were discussed with the help of video demonstrations, surgical skill transfer courses (SSTC’s) and didactic lectures by experts in the field. The conference highlighted the role Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) can play in alleviating cataract related blindness in developing nations since it is a cost effective and safe surgical technique.
Prof KK Talwal former director PGIMER and former Chairman, Board of Governors, Medical Council of India was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony at this conference. The organizing chairpersons Prof Jagat Ram, former director PGIMER and Prof SS Pandav, Head of Deptt,Advanced Eye Centre were honoured by the ISMSICS office bearers during the awards ceremony for their immense contribution to the field of Ophthalmology. Prof Amit Gupta and Prof Chintan Malhotra were the organizing and joint organizing secretaries for this meeting.
Dr Kiran Kumari Senior Resident Pediatric Ophthalmology Services at AEC received the award for winner of innovative videowhile Dr Shubham Manchanda and Dr Prashant Singla, both Junior Residents at AEC , won the awards for runner up long video and third prize in innovative videos respectively. DrBarkha Gupta and DrMuskan Bansal, MCH trainees in Cornea , Cataract and Refractive Surgery at AEC won the first and second prizes respectively for the quiz session held at the conference.
